Mr. White was born in
Bowling Green, KY… died at the age of 78 on June 23, 2001.

Over 16 years of
service as President of the Jackson County Branch NAACP. Longest
serving President of that branch.

Chairman of the
Human Relations Committee. Past member of United Way Board.

He worked for the
Conservation Corps in Warren County, KY. for several years before
moving to Michigan in 1939. He began employment at Goodyear Tire
and Rubber Co. in 1941 retiring 43 years later.

Harold White, Sr.
served in the US Navy from 1941 – 1945 and worked vigorously in his
community as a civil rights activist for more than 50 years.

Boy Scout Leader
for 30 years.
The Scholarship began
funding with the Harold White Golf Outing of 2002, sponsored by the
Jackson County Branch NAACP.
Purpose of Scholarship Fund
The scholarship is to
fund African-American students of Jackson county pursuing:

A One-year
certificate.

2 year Degree
or
-
A Bachelors Degree
Requirements for Application
Students applying for
the NAACP / Harold White Sr. Scholarship must:
Complete a private
Scholarship application. Financial need must be documented in a
250-300-word essay (typed). “Why I deserve to be awarded the NAACP /
Harold White Sr. Scholarship."

Be a legal resident
of Jackson County in the State of Michigan.

Be enrolled in
courses of study leading toward a 1-year certificate, 2-year
Associate’s Degree or a Bachelors Degree.

Preference will be
given to students pursuing full-time studies, however, students
taking less than full-time will be considered.
Applicants must have a
2.5 G.P.A. or better from high school or completed college work, and
must maintain a 2.5 G.P.A. for renewal consideration. (G.E.D.
recipients will be considered).
Award Criteria
Scholarships will be
awarded to cover expenses necessary to pursue the course of education.
This includes, but not limited to, tuitions, books, lab fees, and
associated material fees.
Award candidates will be chosen in accordance with the terms and
conditions set forth above.
Amount of Award
The amount of the
award(s) will be determined by the funds income generated by the
endowment portfolio and the amount of funding required enabling a
student to attend college.
Unless otherwise
stipulated by the donor, full fee scholarships will be awarded.
