April 4 marked the anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s death with many people celebrating his message of love, hope, non-violent protest and the battle for social justice. His niece, Dr. Alveda King, has continued his legacy, but also sees the pro-life movement as a continuation of the civil rights struggle.
Just as racists were afraid of King’s message, women considering abortion are afraid of pregnancy and possibly being a single parent.
Just as people who believe that those who voted for President Donald Trump are all racists are deluding themselves, women considering abortion are deluded into thinking that an abortion will fix anything.
Just as true racists and anyone who considered slavery to be good are ignorant, most women considering an abortion are ignorant about scientific facts regarding pre-natal development and abortion. And just as true racists are intolerant of others, anyone who supports abortion is intolerant in not respecting everyone’s right to life.
The pro-life movement continues to battle for social justice and for the opportunity to live. Martin Luther King, Jr. stated “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” and abortion is most certainly injustice to the 3,000 babies whose lives are taken every day.
Another quote attributed to Martin Luther King, Jr. is “Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.” How many wounds were inflicted on our souls over the past 45 years while 60 million babies died and we looked the other way?
