The president of the United States visited the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, which opened last week (“Trump at opening is ‘insult’ says Lewis,” news, Dec. 8). It was certainly the right thing to do. Imagine the uproar if he did not show enough respect to attend.
What’s difficult to fathom is the uproar, because he did attend and show that respect. How small, petty and shortsighted are the NAACP, U.S. Reps. John Lewis and Bennie Thompson, and the other “protesters.” Their position: Let’s not try for common ground, let’s just pick up our toys and go home. How childish.
