Macau (MNA) – Legislator Sulu Sou Ka Hao’s case is an example of growing suppression of civil rights, according to the pan-democratic legislator Au Kam San, who spoke to the press prior to a meeting with the Committee of Regulations and Mandate on Monday.
Being one of the committee members, Mr. Au said that Mr. Sou’s case does not involve any physical conflicts or violating anyone’s properties, while criticising remarks by the Secretary for Security, Wong Sio Chak, emphasising that the prosecution case was filed in March when Mr. Sou was not yet a legislator.
The pan-democratic legislator aligned with public opinions that the charges brought against Mr. Sou are of political nature.
He also pointed out that such accusations would cause troubles to the person involved, both financially and mentally, given that “the government is using public coffers and the defendant of the case is using his own money to hire lawyers.”
